SMCH Staff Clean Up Lake City

On Saturday, April 6, Stewart Memorial Community Hospital (SMCH) staff members volunteered their time and energy to a day of spring cleaning for nine homes around Lake City. Over 20 employees and some of their children completed various yardwork tasks for those in the community who are unable. This day of community service has become an annual tradition at SMCH known as “This is Home.” Unfortunately, “This is Home” was put on hold for the past few years due to poor weather and the Covid crisis.

“We hadn’t worked at some of these homes in a couple years, and it showed,” said SMCH CFO Jim Henkenius. “We were grateful that the weather halfway cooperated and we were able to provide some much-needed cleanup for the residents of Lake City.”

Although Saturday’s temperatures were nearly ideal, “This is Home” participants battled 40 mph winds as they cleaned gutters, raked leaves, bagged trash, and more.

“Residents were incredibly appreciative of our efforts, especially considering the wind conditions,” Henkenius noted. “It was a day well spent. I’m proud to work for an organization whose employees are so passionate about serving their community.”
