Early Detection, Early Action: Stephanie’s Fight Against Breast Cancer

Stephanie Petzenhauser’s journey with breast cancer began unexpectedly, but her decision to prioritize her health led to an early diagnosis and successful treatment. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Stewart Memorial Community Hospital is urging women to make their health a priority and schedule regular screenings.

Stephanie’s story started with a casual conversation at work, which prompted her to take advantage of the no-cost breast cancer screening offered through her health insurance. This seemingly routine decision turned out to be life-changing when her results revealed abnormalities. Thanks to the swift actions of Dr. Hornback, Danni Anderson, PA-C, and the team at Stewart Memorial, Stephanie received a timely diagnosis and began treatment.

Throughout her journey, Stephanie experienced unwavering support from her care team. “Dr. Hornback and Danni have been so supportive this whole time. To this day, if there is something I need, they get me in very quickly,” Stephanie shared. “There have been times when I noticed a small lump on a breast self-exam and Danni got me in the next day for additional evaluation, like a mammogram or ultrasound at Stewart Memorial. Danni and Dr. Hornback are there for every little thing and they are just so on top of it. Their nurses are great and call right away with the results, so I never have to wait longer than necessary to know.”

Reflecting on her experience, Stephanie emphasized the importance of early detection and self-exams. “If I hadn’t been proactive about my health, my story could have been different,” she said. “Make sure to get your screenings and mammograms done and take advantage of your medical benefits.”
